Cynthia Moore - two of them.
One (Cynthia) is married to Alfred Hale Slover. She is Zachariah Chaney Moore's daughter.
Zachariah is Martha and Cynthia's (the second one) brother.
All three are James Moore and Hanna Boring's children.
Jacob Slover and Martha Moore divorce - looks like it might be true. Information is bits and pieces I picked out from several "threads". Still needs more research. (1800s soap opera).
Abraham Slover and Martha Anderson are parents of Jacob Slover. Jacob was born 1780 Pennsylvania.
Jacob Slover married Martha (Patty) Moore in 1806. Her parents are James Moore and Hanna Boring. Jacob paid a tax on land in 1823 Goodfield Reah, Tennessee. Owned a store in Dandridge Tennessee, Effingham Illinois, maybe Dunklin Missouri and Wayne Illinois. Jacob's Military Service - War of 1812, Private Bunch's Regiment (1814), East Tennessee, Miland in 2nd Regiment, Mounted Gunman (Brown's) East Tennessee.
Jacob Slover and Martha Moore are parents of Alfred Slover. He married, Cynthia Moore (not the one that is Martha Moore's sister), Dandridge, Tennessee. She is the daughter of Zachary Moore and his second wife was Vandagriff Abelis (Abells). Alfred taught school, worked in his father's Dandridge, Tennessee store, hauled merchandise from New Orleans to Dandridge. He belonged to the Baptist church. Was Commissioner of Jefferson County Tennessee. He moved to Soddy Hamilton Tennessee in 1847.
Jacob Slover divorced Martha Slover on September 21 1827. (Book Tennessee Tidbits 1778 to 1914 by Marjorie Hood Fischer and Ruth Blake Burns). He was granted the divorce. From the testimony of Henry Price, Abraham Cox, John Taff, Miss Martin and James Wilson. It appears that the defendant (Martha Slover) has been guilty of adultery. To make our story better,
Grandmother Elizabeth Jane Slover Wallace, daughter of Albert Moore Slover, granddaughter of Alfred Hill Slover, and Great Granddaughter of Jacob Slover and the defamed Martha Moore Slover.
Elizabeth Jane Slover's husband is Samuel Wallace. His family was also from East Tennessee. His father, Rev Benjamin F Wallace (1807-1856) was the well known Presbyterian Minister, born in Blount Tennessee and died in Soddy Hamilton Tennessee. His father was Abraham Wallace and mother was Ann McCellan. Abraham's father, John, was killed by Indians, Heavy Horseman Creek (NC? TN?).
Love the fact that Martha Moore's own sister, Cynthia Moore (b 1801), was married to the John Taff, who testified against Martha. Martha and Cynthia Moore had a brother named Zachariah Chaney Moore, whose daughter is, Cynthia Moore (b 1815). Cynthia Moore (Zachariah's daughter) married Alfred Hill Slover (parents are Jacob and Martha Slover).
John Taff, had been executor of Jacob Slover's father's will.
Jacob kept a store in Dandridge and also in Effingham, Illinois. where his brother, Isaac had gone previously.
He wanted his son Alfred Hill Slover to follow him to Illinois to clerk in the store. Jacob would give him $600 a year and a child's part in all he had. Alfred remained near Soddy, Hamilton Tennessee. Upon his arrival in Illinois, Jacob bought out an Irish merchant who was far gone with TB. The Irishman gave Jacob $5,000 in notes to keep for him, saying he had no living relatives. If he did not come back, Jacob was to keep them. Irishman left and was never heard from again.
There were 9 children, Alfred being the 5th. Unfortunately, the courthouse at Kennett Dunklin Missouri was burned in the Civil War. In 1872, the newly-built courthouse was burned with all the records.
They moved from Maryland to Meigs County, Tennessee shortly after the Revolutionary War. James and Hannah are both buried in the Upper Goodfield Baptist ChurchCemetery in Meigs County, Tennessee. He remarried after Hannah died. His second wife was also named Hannah. She was the widow of Robert Elder, but her maiden name is unknown. 1823 (Capt. Smith's Co.) Peter Taff, son of Peter Taaffe, was also in the Revolutionary War, but did not file a pension application. He was with George Washington at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777-1778. He served with James Moore, who recieved a pension in 1833 at the age of 103, from Meigs County, TN. Peter Jr's son John married James Moore's daughter Cynthia December 19, 1816 in Jefferson County, TN. Cynthia was born Dec. 15, 1801 Green/Jefferson CO, TN. Cynthia was the youngest child of James and Hannah Boring Moore. Hannah was a distant cousin of Sir Francis Bacon, and a descendent of Count Regnault, the noted Protestant leader of France.
John enlisted in thw War of 1812 on October 8, 1813, at Dandridge, TN, as a private in Col. W. Lillard's Brigade for four months, and was discharged at Dandridge February 8, 1814. He also served in Captain Peak's Company from 1836-1844, when it was neccessary to battle Indians to remove them from land involved in the Hiwassee Purchase.
John and Cynthia moved to Meigs County, Tn, three miles south of Decatur, on Goodfield Creek, in late 1820. John's father, Peter Jr. and Cynthia's parents moved with them. Cynthia died August 29, 1830. She is buried in the Goodfield Methodist Episcopal Church South Cemetery, the church she and John helped build. On January 15, 1831, John m. Jane Haupt, daughter of Valentine and Nancy Watts Haupt. Valentine ia a Revolutionary War veteran. Jane was born January 15, 1803. John was loyal to the Confederacy during the Civil War. Three of his sons, and other relatives served in the Confederate Army. He was very surprised when he was visited by two of uncle George Taff's grandsons, both Union soldiers in Sherman's Army. Most of John's children moved to Scott County, Arkansas after the war. Jane died June 9, 1871, and John on January 12, 1873, from pneumonia.
