Work In Progress

Still sorting out whether this Elizabeth died or married Baynter. Or did Elizabeth Boucher, unmarried at time of her father's will, marry Baynter?

Biography

Elizabeth was born no earlier than 1635, and more likely 1636. John Vassar claimed headrights on himself, his wife, and one servant. He does not claim headrights on any of his children. All claimants would receive additional land for each child transported and would claim every one possible. This is strong evidence that none of the children were born before 1635. It is also very unlikely they immigrated at a later date. Although possible, if this were the case additional headrights would have been claimed by the parents, or the children themselves upon their maturity. At any rate, his will does mention Elizabeth as the eldest daughter, who is likely is old enough to be engaged. The will is dated 1650, so conservatively her year of birth is 1636.,

Elizabeth was the widow of John Vasser, who died about 14 Jan 1650. Blanche Adams Chapman, Wills and Administrations of Isle of Wight County, Virginia, 1647-1800, Books 1-3. Westminster, MD: Heritage Books, 2006, p. 1. Wills & Administrations Book A, p. 30.

She would have been born before 1618.

Elizabeth married (2) Daniel Boucher, who left bequests to her grandchildren (from the Vasser marriage). She and Daniel had a daughter, Elizabeth, who married John Baynton. This profile of "Elizabeth Anonymous" as wife of Daniel Boucher and mother of three Williams children is inaccurate. The first wife of Daniel Boucher was unknown, and she had a daughter whose name is unknown who married George Williams, Sr., 1618-1672. I tried to add corrections but the tie between her and the Vassers is also incorrect. I believe the second wife of Daniel Boucher was Elizabeth, widow Vasser.

George Williams (1618-1672) married an unknown daughter of Daniel Boucher about 1664. My interpretation of Daniel Boucher's will and a timeline I constructed for him is that after 1650 Daniel Boucher married Elizabeth, widow of John Vasser. Daniel Boucher’s deceased wife Elizabeth had been a widow because his will refers to her grandchildren. About 1751 Elizabeth gave birth to a daughter Elizabeth with Mr. Boucher. This daughter would have been much younger than Mr. Boucher's daughter who married George Williams. The daughter, Elizabeth Boucher, married John Baynton (John Bennett Boddie, Seventeenth Century Isle of Wight County, Virginia, Baltimore, MD: Genealogical Pub. Co., 2003, pp. 615, 689).
