Biography

This profile is part of the Bourque Name Study.

Jean Bourg was born in 1646 in Port-Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France. His parents were Antoine Bourg and Antoinette Landry.[1]

He married Marguerite Martin in 1667. Together they had nine children:[1]

  1. Anne-Marie Bourg
  2. Marguerite Bourg
  3. Marie-Claire Bourg
  4. Elisabeth Bourg
  5. Madeleine Bourg
  6. Catherine Bourg
  7. Jean-Baptiste Bourg
  8. Jeanne Bourg
  9. Louis Bourg

In 1671 they lived in Port Royal.[2]

In 1686, at Port Royal, Jean BOURC [sic], aged 40, was living with his wife, Marguerite MARTIN, and their seven children: Anne [sic], aged 18, Marguerite, aged 16, Marie [sic], aged 13, Isabelle [sic], aged 10, Magdelaine [sic], aged 8, Catherine, aged 6, and Jean-Baptiste, aged 3. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 12 arpents of cultivable land with 16 cattle, 15 sheep, and 12 hogs.[3]

In 1693, at Port Royal, Jean BOURG, aged 40, was living with his wife, Marguerite MARTIN, aged 41, and their six children: Anne [sic], aged 25, Marguerite, aged 23, Ilizabeth [sic], aged 18, Madeleine, aged 13, Catherine, aged 12, and Jean Baptiste, aged 9. The family owned 1 gun and was living on 12 arpents of cultivable land with 20 cattle, 18 sheep, and 18 pigs.[4]

He died before the 1698 Census in Port Royal, Acadie, Nouvelle-France;[1] Marguerite is found as a widow in 1698 in Port Royal.[5]
