Allain Bourg is on the Wall of Names at the Acadian Memorial in St. Martinville, Louisiana Plaque 8 Right, Le Beaumont, Arrivee Le 19 Aout, 1765. Listed with him is his wife Marie Commeau and three children Francois, Alexis and Genevieve.[1]
Alain BOURG, born about 1742, was the son of Francois & Madeleine HEBERT. [2] He disembarked with his brother and sister at St. Malo on 23 Jan 1759 from one of the "Five ships." On list of arrivals at St-Malo, age 17 years.[2] He lived with his family at St. Suliac from 1759-1772. He is age 29 on the census of 1772 taken at Ille-et-Vilaine, France [2]
"On list of arrivals at St-Malo, age 17 years." In 1761 Alain embarked on the Corsaie "Le Tigre" and is found in England on 6 Mar 1761. [3]
"On list of "Inhabitants of Isle Royale and Isle Saint Jean--Reduction in the payments given:" Allain BOURG, 17 years old, embarked on the corsair "Le Tigre," left [St. Malo, France] 6 Mar 1761, taken by the English. Alain is on the census taken at St-Suliac, Ille-et-Vilaine, France in 1762, age 20 years. [2] Around this time, his father died; his mother had died at sea during the crossing to France.[4]The war ended in 1763 and the Acadians living in England were repatriated to France. Some would languish there for 22 years, then take a chance on a new life in Louisiana. Alain was one of those people.
Alain Bourg and Anne Marie Comeau, daughter of Joseph & Marguerite Hebert, were married 23 Jan 1764 in St. Suliac, Ille-et-Vilaine, France. [2] Following is the text of their marriage document:
Alain BOURG, major son of deceased Francois BOURG & of Madelaine HEBERT... married on 23 Jan 1764 Anne Marie COMEAU, major daughter of deceased Joseph COMEAU & deceased Margueritte HEBERT, natives of Acadie and residing here. Banns were made at high masses on Sundays the 8th, 15th, and 22nd of Jan 1764, without opposition. Witnesses: Pierre BOURG, brother of groom; Ambroise NAQUAIN, his brother-in-law; Jean HEBERT, uncle of the bride; Victor BOUDRAU; and several others; Emilian SEGOLIOT [who signed Emillian SEGOILLOT]; Joseph HEBERT who signed; Pierre LANDRY who signed; Jan HUET, who signed. Priest was Francois CONTIN, who signed.[5]
Children All of their children were born in France.
