Hippolyte Bourg was born around 1774. Stephen White does not give a location for his birth, but since his father Jean was one of the first settlers in Cocagne which was founded in 1767, it is possible that he was born there but no records have been found concerning his birth.[1] He married Madeleine Hébert, daughter of Paul Hébert and Marguerite Arsenault, on November 24, 1800. [2] The witnesses were Joseph Hébert, Jaques Cormier, Louis Alain and Charlemagne Despres. They received a special dispensation for « parenté double au troisième degré ».
Hippolyte and Madeleine were second cousins. Click here to see the relationship between Hippolyte Bourg and Madeleine Hébert.

"I have a copy of the original land grants in Cocagne area. (my bro-in-law from Cocagne. desc. from many generations ) The original was in a huge safe that has been in that house forever.. had it restored (da-in museum of Ottawa)...
Translation: Cocagne was inhabited by Acadians starting in 1767 - one could say that they were squatting since they didn’t have any titles for the land
Translation: In the book « Cocagne, 225 d’histoire », page 46, this is what genealogist Placide Gaudet wrote about him, using a copy of his baptism record. At Beaubassin, on 22 January 1735, the venerable Jacques Lesclache, missionary priest of this district and of the isthmus of Chignectou listed in the parish registers the following baptism. In the year 1735, on 22 January, I baptized in the church Notre-Dame de L'Assomption of La Cadie Jean Bourg, son of Michel Bourg, the mother and wife Marie Cormier, born on 14 October 1734. The godfather was Pierre Sire, the godmother Anne Bourg. signed Jacques Lesclache, miss.
Translation: Like the other families, he escaped deportation by hiding in the forest. When Jean Bourg arrived in Cocagne in 1767, he was 33 years of age. Married to Marie Arseneault, daughter of François, they had many children. The Bourque families in Cocagne are probably all descendants of this couple.
Translation : My brother-in-law A. Desprez found, in a safe, the original copy of the 1790-(1791?) map of land concessions. Jean Bourg Sr. was on lot #17, thus neighbor of Paul Hébert #18 and of Jean Baptiste Deprez #16. (this map shows the lots #12 Joseph Goguen and his son 620 acres (310 acres each). Jean's son Hyppolyte Bourg is on lot #13, 227 acres. Among them were people called Breau, Boucher, Richard Surat (Surette), Bourgeois, Babineau, Leger.
Notice that Jean, Hyppolyte's father, went to Cocagne in 1767 (7yrs before Hyppolyte's birth) so it seems likely enough to me." End quote.
The death date and location on the profile (Cocagne January 1831) are unsourced and marked uncertain. Caution is advised. His burial is not listed in the index for the register of Cocagne, nor in the transcriptions of the Cocagne Parish register.

(Léo-Paul Babineau) My great grandfather was a Amable à Hipolyte Bourque from Cocagne. Amable lived in Pleasant Ridge (Rogersville). I listened to Cocagne Acadie, last night, and I wonder if the old Bourque house would not be Hipolyte's. Please let me know if somebody knows.
(Marie Isabelle Vienneau-Haché) My opinion they were in Cocagne(squatting) http://www.acadian-home.org/cocagne.html
I will change the name to Bourg as there is another merge to be done which doesn't have the correct last name either. No worries, lots to learn on WikiTree! If you have any questions or need assistance with a last name, please ask!
