Biography

Oliver Henry Bourque was born on Aug 22, 1882 in Taftville, Norwich, Connecticut, USA, son of Napoleon Richard Bourque and Hermenie Guillette[1]. His birth certificate listed him as Levi, but he was always known as Oliver, and is presented on his marriage certificate as such.

At age 16 he lost an arm in the paper cutter at the paper mill. This must have been a summer job because he lived with his parents in 1900, age 18, and was attending school.[2]

In 1911 he married Emma Tremblay.[3]

In 1911 he lived at 56 Pleasant St., Holyoke and was teaching high school in the evenings, also was a bookkeeper (listed as such in the Holyoke Jury List).[4]

In 1920 the family lived at 1649 Northhampton St[5], where Philip Bourque was born. It is now an insurance company. In 1924 the family moved to the house behind Northhampton, and 1933 gave the house to the bank (Vivian was in college).

He published the first book on tax accounting "1001 Answers To Your Questions" He set up business "Accounting Systems Incorporated" as an accountant and made accounting forms, ran ads in public directories and was a notary public. He had a partnership with Ross in insurance, mortgaged the house and went under in the 1930's.

In 1933 they moved to Lenox Road (a stucco house), where Philip had paper routes.

In 1936 the family moved to 55 Fairfield Ave which was a rather grand house on a boulevard street. This was the last house Oliver purchased.[6]. The family picture was taken there.

He died in 1940 while on a Sunday drive in Amherst, of a heart attack.[7]
