Biography

Although his nephew believes he was born in Hog Island Vermont, the 1870 Census lists him at age 9 as having been born in Rhode Island. Could that have been a mistake as the family was living in Plainfield, CT in that year. [1]. He lists himself as born in Vermont in the 1900 census.[2]

Napoleon Bork is reported in the Bridgeport 1880 Census as a boarder in a rooming house (probably not in when the census taker called, hence misspelling). Pierre and his offspring lived in the general area.

The Census of 1890 was destroyed by fire.

He was married in 1891 with the marriage certificate listing him as Napoleon Burke[3]

Napoleon moved his family to Holyoke, MA around 1892.[4]. He was an Overseer for Lyman Mills.[4]

Napoleon lived in Norwich, CT, Taftville, CT. and Holyoke, MA, where he last resided independently at 10 Taylor St., Holyoke, MA. [4]

Napoleon died December 22, 1942 of Prostate cancer, as did his son Richard, and his grandson Richard; he was 82 and a widower. At the time of his death, he lived at 55 Fairfield Ave, Holyoke, MA with his late son Olivers family including his grandson Philip.[5]

He is buried in Notre Dame Cemetery, South Hadley, MA.[5] Headstone Inscription: BOURQUE-Napoleon Bourque 1862-1942, Son Epouse Hermine Guillette 1862-1925,
Napoleon I. Hebert 1888-1938, Son Epouse Anna Bourque 1884-1959,
Alfred Bourque 1888-1949, Son Epouse Lea M. Balthazard 1892-1939[6]
