Biography

Stephen was born about 1757,[1] the oldest of at least 9 children to Clifton R Bowen and Martha Edwards. His siblings were: Elijah, Levi, Mark, Amelia, John, Mary Elizabeth, Edward, and Martha.

  • Stephen Bowen 1757-1838 Huxfords Pioneers of Wiregrass Georgia Vol. 3, page 28: Stephen Bowen, Revolutionary Soldier, whose last thirty eight years were spent in Tattnall and Telfair Counties, was born in Duplin Co., NC in 1757, a son of Lieut. Clifton Bowen, R.S. (See Vol. 2). He was married in May 1780 in Duplin Co., NC to Rachel Highsmith, a daughter of Daniel Highsmith, a Revolutionary Soldier of NewHanover Co. NC. Stephen enlisted August 28, 1778, in the struggle for Independence, and enrolled under Lieut. Curtis Ivey, 5th Regiment, Continental Line. He was honorably discharged August 1781 per his pension papers. [1]

Stephen was born about 1757. He passed away in 1838.
