Biography

George Bowen was born in 1841 in the parish of Hasguard Pembrokeshire, the son of George and Lettice Bowen 1801 farm worker from Haroldston West parish, near Broad Haven. George can be found on the 1851 census for Hasguard parish living at the family home with his parents. George can then be found ten years later, at Howelston farm, working for Thomas and Martha Rosser. As yet I have not found George on the 1871 census, but we do find George at his wedding to Jane Rees in 1873 at Hasguard parish church. As yet I have not researched the 1881 census for Hasguard, so I do not have any data regarding the couple. We skip forward again to the 1891 census, where we find George and Jane at Bushford Hill Hasguard. The couple have Jane’s daughter Letitia, living with them at the family home, along with Jane’s widowed mother Martha. There is also an aunt of George, she is Mary Lewis, born 1811. She is George’s mother’s sister. Jane and George had at least three children together, these were George (b 1868) John (b 1869) and the youngest of Jane’s children, Annie, who was born in 1893, and the same time that Jane died. After the death of George’s wife Jane, George married Margaret (?). As yet I have not located the marriage, and can’t tell you too much about Margaret, except that the couple went on to have at least two children, these being Ada born 1895, in Steynton parish, and William born in 1898 at Hasguard. As of to date I have not researched George or his family beyond 1891, and have little to add to his profile. Written by Keith Rees 2016

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with George by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with George:
