William was born about 1777. He is the son of Robert Bowen and Mary Gillespie. He married Martha Adeline Hallum about before 1800 [1].

Death

William Bowen passed away in 1857. He died of sudden death at his kitchen table.[7] He wrote his will 2 Sept 1856, and it was proven 21 Dec 1857.[8][9]

Slaves

William Bowen was a slaveholder. The 1850 slave schedule includes 10 unnamed enslaved persons.[10] The enslaved of the Bowen estate were Assessed for value,[11] and then they were sold.[12][13][14][15]

Bowen-965 and Gillespie-5662 appear to represent the same person because: These two profiles have the same parents and birth year. I think the Gillespie profile was added with his mother's maiden name instead of Bowen.
