Biography

Duncan George Washington Buie was a son of Duncan Buie Esq. and Lucy Martinleer Buie. George was born about 1811 and passed away about 1887. In the 1860 census G (age 44), Manager, was in Tensas, Louisiana.^[1]

Lucy Martinleer was the second wife to Duncan Buie Esq. Lucy can be found in the 1800 census as head of house with one young male an 12 slaves. She is then listed or transcribed as Martinlere not Martinleer. She resides on the Martinleer land, West side of the CFR across from Aversboro an south of the mouth of the upper little River. In 1800 she bounds to the estate of George Martinleer Dec. along with Jean Adkins. Ref: Free Famliy search NC , Cumberland, George Martinleer 1800. At about 1802 Duncan marries Lucy as there first child Margret Duncan Buie was born 1804. Ref: 1850c Margret McFarland as head with children along with her Buie sisters. In 1805 Duncan Buie pays the taxes for the Martinleer in two separate entries.. Ref: NCGEN Website, taxes, 1805. In 1816 Duncan Buie esq or as he signs Dun..Buie bounds to the estate of William Martinleer on behalf of his wife Lucy. In the probate of William many big names are seen making purchases. In a document dated 1844, Cumberland County deeds, book 4, page 473, William Moore of Perry County Alabama., power of Attorney to Hugh McLean to sell all lands that fell to his mother Sara Martinleer Moore dec. daughter to George Martinleer dec. excluding those lands set aside in the dower to Widow Lucy Martinleer who married Duncan Buie. The document above implies that Lucy was the widow of George Martinleer an from their marriage had two children prior to 1800., William who died in 1816 an Sara Martinleer Moore , wife to Henry Moore both Dec. by 1844.
