When Thomas Franklin Bowman was born on May 22, 1857, in Rutherford, North Carolina, his father, John John Bowman, was 24 and his mother, Mary Mary Wilkie, was 17. He married Cordelia Ann Wright on March 1, 1877, in DeKalb, Tennessee. They had 11 children in 21 years. He died on September 18, 1911, in Waverly, Tennessee, at the age of 54, and was buried there.
BOWMAN, THOMAS FRANKLIN, lawyer, clergyman, was born May 22, 1857, in Rutherford county, N. C. He received his education at the Cumberland University of Lebanon, Tenn. During President Garfield's administration he was appointed United States commissioner for middle Tennessee. He is entirely a self-made man, and has attained an enviable reputation in the south as an able lawyer and a successful minister of the gospel.[1]
