Joseph Brem Bowman, the son of Jacob Bowman and Susanna (Milhouse) Bowman, was born September 26, 1784 in Rockingham, Virginia. He was married twice, first about 1806 to Mary Haas, and after Mary died in 1819, he married Christina Beahm in January 1820. Mary was the mother of four of his children, and Christina was the mother of six children.[1]
Joseph was a deacon in the Knob Creek Church and a prominent man. He was a carpenter and contractor, and built his brick home in 1818. It remained in the Bowman family for many years. He also owned a furniture factory which employed about 25 to 30 men. [1]
"Deacon Joe" died August 12, 1850 at the age of 65 in Knob Creek Mill, Washington County, Tennessee and was buried in Knob Creek church of the Brethren Cemetery.[2]
