Biography
Richard was the oldest son of George and Phebe (Thompson) Bowman. He was born about 1818 in Ohio. In 1840, he was living in Sycamore Township, Hamilton, Ohio. The household was small. Only three people lived at the location:[1]

- Female (30-49) 1
In 1860, Richard was 42. He is listed as farmer and head of household. He is living with Francis Bowman, a 56 year old female born in Virginia, and Susan Cornell of Ohio, also 56.[2]
Richard's first wife (Frances?) must have died because he married Mahala Gillum (a widow) in 1874.[3]
By 1880, he and Mahala had a son, Edward Floyd Bowman, born in Ohio about 1877. Richard was 63 and Mahala was 46 or so. Mahala's daughter by a previous marriage were living with them, too.[4]
Richard died some time after the 1880 Census since no other record is extant.
