Biography

Inverell Times (NSW: 1899 - 1954), Wednesday 3 February 1937, page 4 ________________________________________ Weddings Bowman— Kauter The home of Mr. and Mrs. N. J. Kauter, of Oakwood, Inverell, was tastefully decorated on Saturday after-noon, January 16th, for the wedding of their second daughter, Miss Mary Teresa (Mollie) Kauter, to Mr. Leonard George Bowman, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. G. Bowman, of Bingara. Rev. Father Doherty was the celebrant. The bride, who was given away by her father, was charmingly attired in a long classical gown of ivory satin, with circular-cut-train. Her tiered veil of cut-tulle, also showing a long train, was mounted on a halo of pearls and orange blossoms, and she carried a sheaf of gladioli, bouvardias, and car-nations, in shades of white and pink. She was attended by her sister, Miss Alice Kauter, who chose an ankle-length frock of green cereal crepe, cut on the cross, and with long, pointed sash of red velvet. Her shoes and accessories were red, and her head-dress was of green tulle, with a halo of red flowers. She carried a sheaf of gladioli, dahlias, and miniature lilies, in cream and graded reds. Little Miss Betty Bowman, sister of the bridegroom, acted as trainbearer, and was daintily dressed in an Old World frock of pale-green organdie, with red sash and shoes. Her head-dress was similar to that of the brides-maid. The duties of best man were capably carried out by Mr. Arthur Hall, brother-in-law of the bridegroom. The bride presented the bridegroom with a gold wrist watch, suitably engraved, while the bridegroom's gift to the bride was a crystal dressing-table set. The bridesmaid received a brown handbag, and the train-bearer a dainty box of handkerchiefs. After the ceremony, the bride's mother, attired in a navy frock, patterned in autumn tints, with a navy coat, assisted by the bridegroom's mother, in a fawn and navy ensemble, received the guests, the customary toasts being honoured. The wedding cake was made by the bride's mother and decorated by W. Kautz Ltd. The young couple were the recipients of many cheques and valuable gifts. Mr. and Mrs. Bowman later left by car for Sydney, where the honeymoon will be spent, the bride travelling in a frock of dull-red floral sheer, with accessories in natural and brown ton-ings. Their future home will be at Bathurst.

Leonard was born in 1911. He is the son of Alexander Bowman and Ellinor King. [1]
