Benjamin Bowman, the son of Jacob Bowman and Verena Unknown, was born in Frederick County, Maryland on November 1, 1754. On April 15, 1776 he married Catharine whose surname was possibly Shoemaker. They had 7 children: Elizabeth, Samuel, Daniel, Catharine, Benjamin Jr, John, and Jacob.[1]

Both the SAR and DAR lists him in infantry and in 1783 he paid the supply tax. [2] [3]

Benjamin was a Mennonite. It seems unlikely that he served in the infantry in Virginia during the Revolutionary War.
