According to some articles, Margaret along with her husband Edward Evans were part of the pioneering families of Clay County, Kentucky, which later became Owsley County. Several sites mention that Margaret comes from Virginia or was born in Kentucky which was not a state at the time of her birth. Other people have her coming from North Carolina, but it is all supposition since no last name at birth can be found.

Research Notes
The 1810 census has Edward Evans living in Rockcastle County, and another living in Clay County. This alone warrants more detailed research on Margaret. A few articles mention Edward Evans and his wife Margaret in connection with their daughter Tabitha and husband William Clark as founding families of Clay County, Kentucky. But those articles do not give any clues to her last name.
If Cornelius were Margaret's father, it would mean that Jacob Andrew Bowman was her brother. If Jacob A. Bowman married Margaret's daughter Eleanor Evans, it would mean she married her uncle. There were strict rules both religious and secular at the time prohibiting such a marriage. A few genealogy sites claim Jacob married a different EleanorF but did not have sources.
