Biography

John Randolph Boyd, son of John R. boyd and Nancy Hudson, was born in 1835 at New York, USA. [1]

Letter March 1838

In March of 1838 Samuel Hudson, grandfather of John, wrote a letter to his brother-in-law, Stephen Dodge and his sister, Mehitable (Hudson) Dodge. There is one section on page three of special note as it identifies four of his grandchildren and where they are living. Nelson and Boyd are his son-in-laws.

To Roswell Griffing and Stephen Dodge Cazenovia, Madison Co, New York.

"I want to see you all very much and I should ____ that my name sake well ___ on ___ He has goan to Buffalo We hant heard from Edward since the first day __ of September last. He was well then and a duen well. He was at Anne Arbor in the Michigan. Nelson and his family in in the west – content Browns County, Lymstone ridge, five miles up Fox river, norwest territory. He is a duen well, they have two children Samuel H. and Alanson Tyler. John Boyd and Nancy live near them health is very poor they have two children than names John R. and Nancy A. Boyd.

John died on 25 March 1858 at Belvidere, Boone Co, Illinois, USA and was buried on 27 March 1858 at Belvidere Cemetery.[1][3]

Smith, who had possession of the letter until the 1950's when they were given to his son, Nathaniel. Following the death of Nathaniel's son David, the letter was given to Phil Smith.
