William Clark Boyd was born on 13 February 1800 and was baptised on 9 March 1800 at St Giles in The Fields, Camden, London[1]. He was the son of Thomas Boyd and Grace Varty.
His father Thomas was a Linen Draper of Skinner Street, Snow-Hill. William was indentured as an apprentice to his father, Citizen and Draper of London, to learn his Art, and with him (after the manner of an Apprentice) to serve him for seven years. The document is dated 18 April 1814.
27 year old William and Mary Steinmetz (the daughter of William Steinmetz and Mary Saunders) obtained a Marriage Licence on 28 March 1827. He was a Bachelor of the parish of St. Sepulchre in the city of London. They were subsequently married on 29 March 1827 in the Parish of Hackney by Edward Irish (Curate). The witnesses were many family members of both the Steinmetz and Boyd families.
They went on to have at least seven children. Sadly his daughter Mary Steinmetz Boyd died in February 1833 at 6 months of age.
