Notes for MARY ANN BOYD by DONALD HAYWORTH: Ethel S. Updike in her book "Armstrong, Branyon, Bryson and Allied Families of the South" published by the Hobby Press concluded that Samuel Armstrong's wife was probably born Mary Boyd, the daughter of William Boyd who died in 1803. Excerpts from the diary of her grandson, Reverend William Curtis Emerson, a Presbyterian minister and missionary to Brazil. William Curtis Emerson was the son of William Emerson and Mary Ann Armstrong, daughter of Samuel and Mary Armstrong. He was born on 15 October 1818, a few weeks after the death of his father. "My Grandmother lived to the great age of 96, having never passed a night, since I can remember without sleeping with the Bible under her head. I frequently thought she was a good old woman or she would not have loved the Bible so much, and I have great reasons to believe she died happy in the Lord - - - to be with my Grandfather."
Mary was born after 1744. She is the daughter of William Boyd and Catherine McGrew. [1]
