Biography

John was born in 1804, the son of Thomas Boyd and Grace Varty.

He was baptised on 5 August 1804 at St Giles in The Fields, Camden, London, England.

His mother passed away in 1833.

John was in Partnership with Thomas Boyd (his father), William Clark Boyd (his brother), Thomas French and William Morley Burnett as Wholesale Drapers. This firm was dissolved in 1836 as follows:

NOTICE is hereby given, that the Partnership subsisting between the undersigned, Thomas Boyd, Thomas French, William Clark Boyd, William Morley Burnett and John Boyd, of 44, Skinner-Street, Snow Hill, in the city of London, Wholesale Drapers and Warehouseman, was this day dissolved by mutual consent (as regards the said Thomas Boyd and Thomas French retiring from the said concern); and that all debts to and from the said late copartnership will be received and paid by the said William Clark Boyd, William Morley Burnett, and John Boyd, at Skinner-Street aforesaid; As witness our hands this 31st day of December 1836. Thomas Boyd Thomas French William Clark Boyd William Morley Burnett John Boyd.

In the Census of 1841 he was recorded in Church Street, St John Hackney, Middlesex, England with his father Thomas and his sisters Sarah, Elizabeth and Jane. He was aged 35 and single.

Occupation: Null

His father died in 1846.

By 1851 he was living with his sisters Elizabeth and Jane. He was 46 and unmarried. Also in the household were two servants.

He appears to have remained a bachelor and lived with his sisters in 1881 in Woolwich Rd, Erith, Kent, England. His Occupation was still recorded as Merchant Wholesale Draper.

He passed away in 1881 at the age of 77, unmarried.[1] He left quite a sizeable Estate.

His Will was Proved at the Principal Registry on 11 February 1882 by William Christopher Boyd of Cheshunt in the county of Hertford and Thomas Boyd of Surrey Lodge, Howard Road, Woodside in the county of Surrey, Gentleman (his nephews). Personal Estate: £140,819, 16s. 1d.
