Biography

In the Name of God Amen I Jane Williams of Halifax County in North Carolina being in perfect Health and Memory Thanks be to God yet considering the Uncertainty both of Life and Sence Do make and ordain this my last Will and Testament In Manner & Form following. Imprimis I give and bequeath to my two Sons Sampson and Samuel one Shilling Sterling to each the Same is in full of my Estate and a Bar from their obtaining any more thereof. Item It is my Will and Desire that my negro Woman Bandy be sold at Public Sale and I Give the Money that shall so arise to my Son William Williams. Item I Give to him the aforesaid William Williams the one Half of all my other Estate of what Kind soever and the other remaining Half I Give to be sold at Public Sale and the Money so arising to be equally Divided among my Grand Children the Children of George Williams dec'd Viz- Samuel, Chloe, George & William and that the Money that shall belong to the said Children be immediately let into the Hands of some Substantial person who will take the Same on Interest giving Security to pay the Children both principal and Interest as they come of lawful Age. Lastly I Nominate and appoint my Son William Williams my whole & Sole Executor of this my last Will and Testament declaring this and none other to be my last Will In Witness whereof I have hereunto set my Hand and Seal the 4th Day of September 1764 Signed Sealed and declared In presence of Us George Crudup. Jane Williams {Seal} Halifax -un-- Inferior Court 1764 This Will was exhibited in open Court on Oath and duly proved by the Oath of John Norwood one of the Subscribing Witnesses thereto who on his Oath did say He saw Jane Williams Sign, Seal and acknowledge the above as her last Will and Testament and that He Likewise saw George and Priscilla Crudup the other two subscribing Witnesses sign the said Will as Witnesses thereto Whereupon William Williams the Executor named in the said Will was duly Qualified by taking the Oath appointed by Law and on Motion ordered to be recorded.
