James Robert Bracken was born on Aug. 9, 1863 to John Bracken and Nancy Bolin in Jonathan Creek Township at the old homestead of the Bolin family.[1] His obituary states that he was born on Aug. 3.
He married Arella Dazey, daughter of L. T. Dazey and Lucinda Couch, on Aug. 3, 1886 in Moultrie County, Illlinois.[2] They became the parents of four children; Abby Fay, Earl, Grace and Mary Eudora.
In 1895, James and his family moved to a home in East Nelson Township.
James was a janitor of the Jonathan Creek Church for more than 40 years. He was also caretaker of the cemeteries in Jonathan Creek Township for many years.
James died at the age of 78 years on Aug. 29, 1941. He is buried at the Jonathan Creek Cemetery in Sullivan, Illinois.[3]
