Biography

Sarah was born on 2 Mar 1799 in Sydney NSW.[1] and christened on 1 Feb 1800, Sydney. The location of Sarah's baptism is listed on her Baptism certificate as St. P. Sydney A. Church of England.

Sarah married John Parton BERRINGER, son of John BERRINGER and Ann ??, on 2 Sep 1816 in St. Phillips, Sydney.[2] (John Parton BERRINGER was born on 26 Apr 1792 in Holburn, Middlesex, England and died on 31 Jan 1825.).

KISSING POINT By 1794 the name Eastern Farms had given way to Kissing Point, a name believed|to have originated from the way in which heavily laden boats passing up the Parramatta River bumped or "kissed" the rocky outcrop which extends into the river.

ST PHILLIPS CHURCH The Chaplain of the First Fleet, Rev.Richard Johnson conducted the first Christian service in Australia on 3 February 1788. The wattle and daub church built by Johnson in 1793 was burnt down in 1798. A new stone church named St.Phillip was opened in 1810 and was replaced by the current building in 1856.

ST JOHNS CHURCH, PARRAMATTA The first church opened on this site in 1803. It became the church of Samuel Marsden, the "Flogging Parson". It was the only church in the colony until 1809.

Sarah passed away in 1836, Sydney at age 37. with the name of Watts. The reason being on 20 October 1826 John Parton (Berringer) petitioned the Colonial Secretary, Alexander McLeay to be re-assigned to a Mr.Porter due to his wife going to Sydney , with their three children and living with another man (no name given). In the 1828 census she is listed as Watts along with William (30) who was another convict but free of servitude at this time. The three Berringer children, Louisa (11) Anne (9) and Sarah (5) were also listed under the name of Watts. After her husband's death Sarah Elizabeth and their three daughters lived with William WATTS, a convict/farmer, at Kissing Point. There is no record of a marriage, which doesn't mean there wasn't one, but she used his surname. She was buried as Eliza WATT, wife of a farmer.
