The death occurred yesterday at Westport of Mr James Bradley, aged 90 years.
A native of Manchester, England, Mr Bradley came to New Zealand in the ship Dunedin in 1874. He settled in Ashburton and then went on to Westport. He was 1 associated with the erection of the gas works in the town, later becoming manager, which position he held until he retired to take the office of assayer to the Westport Coal Company. He took part in public activities, and was a former member of the Westport Borough Council, a. former president of the Buller Progress League, a former captain of the Westport Fire Brigade, and was chairman of the Buller School of Mines for 40 years.
He is survived by a large adult family and many grandchildren.
