William Bradley was born in Buchanan, Virginia, in 1774 in to Thomas and Elizabeth Bradley.[1] He married Jemima Cole on February 12, 1796, in Bedford County.[2]
At the 1810 and 1820 censuses, William and his family were living in Giles County. In 1820, they were in the town of Pearisburg.[3][4]
By 1840, William and Jemima had moved in with their son Micajah and were living in Lawrence County, Kentucky.[5] They were still living with him in 1850.[6]
William died in Blaine, Kentucky, on July 13, 1852.[1]
Research Notes
The dates on the death record appear to say 1832, but the record is indexed as 1852, which was the first year that the state of Kentucky required deaths to be recorded. The messages from the recorders at the end seem to say 1852. Because other people in the record are perfect matches with people in the 1850 census, it can be reasonably assumed that the record is from 1852. It looks like the recorder simply wrote 5s in a way that makes them look like 3s. He seems to have written actual 3s in a more flourished way.
The birthplace on the death record appears to read Buchanan Co. Va. However, Buchanan County was not established until 1858. The record is probably referring to the town of Buchanan, which is in a county adjacent to the one where William got married.
