MORTON - Clyde L. "Don" Bradley, 77, of Morton passed away at 4:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 18, 2012, at OSF Saint Francis Medical Center.
Don was born on Sept. 29, 1935, in Cairo, Ill., to Clyde Joseph and Gladys Irene (Holmes) Bradley. He married Flora M. Mattson on July 2, 1956, in Mound City, Ill. She survives.
He is also survived by three daughters, Mary Ellen (Glen) Forck of Peoria, Stephanie Jeanne (Keith McElyea) Bradley of Indianapolis and Lori (Mike) Marriott of East Peoria; five grandchildren, Amanda, Jacob (Stacey) and Nathaniel Marriott and Aaron and Matthew Forck; one sister, Myra (Tom) Neeley of Cairo, Ill.; and two brothers, Jerry (Michelle) Bradley of Midlothian, Ill., and Larry (Mary Ellen) Mohundro of Cape Girardeau, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister.
Don was an Army veteran. He first worked at E.L. Bruce Company and later worked as an assembler at Caterpillar, where he was known as "Doc" by his fellow workers. He retired from Caterpillar on Jan. 1, 1992.
He was a member of St. Monica Catholic Church in East Peoria. He was also a member of the Ships in Bottles Association of America and the National Woodcarvers Association. Don was a woodcarver who was nationally and internationally recognized with his ships in bottles. He was a true artist at carving annual Christmas ornaments along with other wood creations that were featured in various local media. However, his greatest joy was being a grandfather.
Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 22, 2012, at St. Monica Catholic Church. Father Kenneth Marchulones will officiate. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21, 2012, at St. Monica Catholic Church, with a Scripture reading at 7 p.m. An additional visitation will be one hour prior to the Mass at the church. Burial will be in Hirstein Cemetery in Morton. Wright & Salmon Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
