Biography

John learned trade of Millswright in Huntingdon. In Plum twp he built combination grist and saw mill. He was a land surveyeor and held many township offices. 1819 and 1828 he was supervisor and overseer. 1824 Served as twp clerk. 1822and 1841 he was twp assessor and 1840 was tax collector. Member of first township schoolboard in 1834. Jan 1847 to jan 1850 he was County Auditoy he walked 11 miles to work. Home was 1/2 mile S.E. of Main corners @Bradleytown. He owned home that father lived in but could not ten the farm so he hired a tenant and a miller to run the mill. John and his parents were charter memebers of Sunville Presbyterian church which organized June 12 1839. He got cancer his son Jacob and his wife Mandie took care of him and Oliver Perry. Jacob and John inherited the darm 100 acres each.
