Dudley Bradstreet was born 12 March 1707/8, [C.R.1] Groton, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[1]
Groton Vital Records, Children of Dudley and Abigail [Larkin] Bradstreet.[1] Additional life event facts obtained from Dr. Green, pg. 4.
Dudley Bradstreet served in the Massachusetts military service between 1745 and 1747 in Lt. in Capt. John Warner's Co. in the 4th Massachusetts Regiment, Col. Samuel Willard. [Dr. Green is quoting NEHGR (XXIV.371)]
Dr. Green continues (pg.4): Of Dudley Bradstreet, the diarist, little is known. He was the 2nd son of the Rev. Dudley and Mary [Wainwright] Bradstreet of Groton...His father was the settled minister of the town [between] 1706 to 1712, when he was dismissed from his pastoral charge, which had not been entirely harmonious with the parish; and soon afterward he went to England to apply for orders in the Anglican church. On 28 Apr 1727 Dudley Bradstreet, Jr., married Abigail Larkin...they had 6 girls." [2]
The Siege of Louisburg: "The northern British colonies regarded Louisbourg as a menace, calling it the "American Dunkirk" due to its use as a base for privateers. There was regular, intermittent warfare between the French and the Wabanaki Confederacy on one side and the northern New England colonies on the other" [3]
"According to an entry in Joseph Farwell's note-book, [NEHGR, Vol. I, No.XIV. pg.29, Groton Historical Series] the Groton soldiers who took part in the siege of Louisburg left town on 10 Mar 1745, and this squad of men, doubtless, included Lt. Bradstreet within its ranks. His regiment sailed from Boston on March 24 a fortnight later." [4]
"Near the end of 17 Jul 1748, Dudley Bradstreet belonged to a company of 36 men that for two days scouted in the neighborhood of Groton, under the command of Capt. thomas Tarbell. They were sent out by Major Wm Lawrence, of Groton, under orders from Col. Samuel Willard, of Lancaster, during an Indian alarm [Mass. Archives, XCII.156]. This is the last trace of Lt. Bradstreet...neither the town records nor the files of Middlesex Registry of Probate give any hint or clew as to his later history, and the epitaphs in the Burying-ground are equally silent. He disappears from view so completely that he may have died soon afterword."[4]
