Biography
Circa 1640 (after 1638 but before 1643), Rebecca Bradstreet was born at Rowley, in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, the daughter of Humphrey and Bridget (Harris) Bradstreet.[1]
She married George Bonfield by October 1665 probably in Rowley or Marblehead, Essex County.[2] She was named in her mother's will, that of Bridget Bradstreet of Ipswich dated 16 October 1665 and proved 28 March 1666, as Rebecka Bondfeld.[3]
She died on 30 April 1687 and was buried in the Old Burial Hill Cemetery in Marblehead, Essex County.[4]
Court Records
The December 1675 Salem Quarterly Court records, “George Bonfeild and Rebecca, his wife, were granted administration upon the estate of Steephen Waiman, who died intestate, and they were to bring in an inventory to the next Salem court.” [5].[6][7] It isn't known what they relationship of this man is to the couple. It may be this is referring to a soldier in King Philips War that served under Captain Lathrop of Essex Co., MA, the payroll list showing the date February 29, 1675/6 and mistakenly wrote the surname Warman, then corrected it to Stephen Waiman, Wayman or Wyman. It may be the transcriber initially mistook the 'i' for an 'r'. Russel’s list showed the surname as Welman.[8]
The estate of Richard Kemball owed a debt to Rebecah Bondfield of Marblehead. Goodwife Bonfield was paid for taking care of the legg of James Brown’s wife. The next Salem court was September 28, 1676. [9]
