In Common Pleas
There are several records in Common Pleas of Bradstrete (Brakstrete, Braxstrete, etc.) in Gislingham and in Botesdale, about two miles away.
1495 John Brakstrete, of Gyslyngham, husbandman, defendant, debt[1]
1508 John Brakstrete, of Gyslyngham, yeoman, defendant, debt[2]
1519 Simon Bradstrete, of Gysselyngham, husbandman, defendant, debt[3]
1525 Simon Braxstrete, of Bodysdale, yeoman, defendant, trespass: breach of close[4]
1527 Simon Braxstrete, of Bodysdale, yeoman, administrator of John Braxstrete, of Gyslyngham, yeoman, defendant, debt[5]
1530 Simon Braxstrete, of Bodysdale, yeoman, defendant, trespass: breach of close[6]
1536 Simon Braxstrete, of Gyslyngham, yeoman, defendant, trespass: breach of close[7]
1548 Simon Braxstrett, of Gyslyngham, yeoman, defendant, trespass[8]
A possible narrative based on this evidence is that John Brakstrete was born in about 1470 and lived all or most of his life in Gislingham. Simon was born in Gislingham in the 1490s and lived there until about 1520. Then he lived in the 1520s and early 1530s in Botesdale, about two miles to the north. When John died in 1527, Simon, as his son and heir, was the administrator of his property. In the early 1530s, Simon moved back to Gislingham, probably as a result of inheriting property from his father.
