Biography

Arent Andriessen, known to posterity as Arent Bradt, was born about 1610 at Frederickstadt, Norway and died about 1662 at Schenectady, New Netherland.

He is described in the Van Rensselaer Bowier Manuscripts as follows: "Arent Andriesz, tobacco planter; a brother of Albert Andriesz, from Frederikstad, and like him designated as Noorman. He appears to have come over with his brother on the Rensselaerswyck and to have stayed with him in the colony [Rensselaerswyck] for one year. His wages began April 2, 1637, at f75 a year. Between 1638 and 1646, he is various times credited with tobacco furnished to van Curler and de Hooges. May 1, 1658, he obtained a lease for land opposite Beverwyck." [1]

Arent Andriessen took the oath as a citizen of Beverwyck (in New Netherland) on 14 January 1653.[2]

It has been claimed that he married Kenutje Hertel, daughter of Jacques Hertel and a Mohawk woman, as his first wife, but there is no credible evidence to support either this marriage or the existence of this woman.

He married Catalyntje de Vos, daughter of Andries de Vos. She was born in 1628 in Rensselaerwyck, New Netherland. They married in 1648 in Rensselaerwyck, New Netherland. They had at least one daughter: Aeffie Arentse Bradt, born in 1649 in Rensselaerwyck, New Netherland.

He died before 10 October 1664, survived by six children, listed by Jacobus as: Jeffie, Adriaantje, Andries, Dirck, Samuel, and Cornelia. [3]

Hey, James. In WikiTree the LNAB is determined from records contemporary to the person's life. The New Netherland Settlers Project has additional specialized guidance on names, found at https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Project:New_Netherland_Settlers#Naming_Conventions

Although numerous secondary sources, Internet family trees, etc., call him Bradt or Bratt, it seems that there is no evidence that he ever used that name. It was adopted by later generations of the family. Arent apparently used a patronymic name, consistent with prevalent practice of both Norwegians and Dutch. This is why the Andriessen profile is the one that's project-protected. As for his father, we know far less about the father than we know about this man.

These two profiles are a clear duplicate but Bradt appears to be the correct surname. Bradt was the surname of his father. The problem is the Andriessen profile is project protected and cannot be merged into the correct name. This profile should be merged but into the Bradt name.

I presume you are studying Bratt vs. Bradt spellings. Thanks.

Brandt-1344 and Bradt-4 appear to represent the same person because: These are the same person. Brandt is not an alternate spelling of Bradt that I've encountered before, but I don't claim to have seen everything! Bradt-4 is the NNS project-protected profile for this man.

As a general rule, do not copy-and-paste content you find on another website, even if you believe it's not copyrighted. Instead:

Summarize the key points.

When quoting small amounts of relevant text, use quotation marks.

Cite the source of the content.

Link to the web page that has the full text.

I noticed the Notes section was too long and needed editing to minimize. I will make sure the children are attached and remove the extraneous info on the children. I'm going to remove the info in question and add it back according to our standards.

Albert that depends on the individual websites copyright policy. Wikitree has policies on use as well. I will post a link shortly.
I do not undertsnad, how the note is plagiarism? if the source (the link to the site) is shown, and it is in the public domain, and nobody is taking credit for it who did not write it, then it is not plagiarism, but simply quoting a source. The note is not plagiarism, it is just much too long and needs to be shortened!
