Eliza was born in about 1833 She was baptised at St Martin Birmingham on 25th December 1833. Her parents were William Bragg and his wife Sarah.Her father was working as a plater. [1]
In 1851, Eliza was living at the home of her grandmother Ann Gibbs at 66 Warwick Street, Aston, Warwickshire .Her mother Sarah Bragg aged 38 a painter was part of the household and with them was Eliza's infant daughter Lucy Deeley Bragg. Also present was Ann Aldridge ( daughter of Ann Gibbs), Thomas Bragg (grandson of Ann), Thomas Alldridge (great grandson of Ann) and a lodger Samuel Barless [2]
She married William Deeley at St Phillip,Birmingham on July 27th 1851. Eliza was a spinster, aged 20, she was still living in Warwick Street. Her father was William Bragg, with his occupation given as a silversmith. William was recorded as a bachelor, aged 21. He was working living in Great Barr Street and working as a grinder. William's father was also called William, a polisher The witnesses were Sarah Bragg and Charles Whalley.None of the party were able to sign their names. [3]

By 1861, Eliza (aged 27) had six children, Lucy (10), Sarah (8), William H (6), Henry Walter (4), John (2) and Alfred seven months. They lived at 35 Johnson Street, Aston, Birmingham. Her husband William was working as a grinder for RCW (Birmingham, railway carriage and wagon company) [10] In 1868, William died, was left a widow with seven children, the youngest Emily, only 5. In 1871, the whole family was still together with Eliza now aged 37 working as a laundress. They lived in Cheatham Street. Her eldest daughters, Lucy and Sarah worked as machine boot sewers, William as a brass caster, Walter was an edge tool maker and John made brass rivets. The youngest children, Alfred and Emily were listed as scholars. [11]
By 1881 the family had moved to 14 Church Road. Eliza was a coffee shop keeper. The household now included her unmarried children, Sarah Ann (28), a boot machinist, William Henry(26) a spoon filer, Henry Walter (24) a blacksmith, John (22) a spade and shovel maker, Emily (18) a boot machinist. A grandaughter, Ada Emily Henery aged 9 was with the family [12]
An Eliza Deeley aged 54 died in the Aston registration district in the first quarter of 1888, Eliza has not been found on subsequent censuses so this is probably her[13]
