Biography

Amy Agnes Bramble is born in 1891 in New South Wales, Australia. Her parents are John William Bramble (1865-1919) and Helen Paterson (1866-1949). The birth is registered in Stroud, which is 76 kilometres north of Newcastle, but if it was a home birth it is more likely the actual birth was in or near Bungwahl. Bungwahl is near Myall Lake, which is about 100 kilometres north of Newcastle.

Amy marries James Palmer (1882-1961) in 1909 in Taree. They have eight children. One source names all eight children and these names are reflected in the following list. However, birth registrations have only been found for six of the children (no birth registrations have been found for the first or last child). And the one child with the biggest question mark is the first one – Florence Daphne Palmer. Source note [2] shows this child with a birth date of 1907, two years before Amy and James are married. Several other family trees available on the Internet show this person. Florence did exist because a 1941 marriage registration for her has been located. But no birth registration or death registration for her can be found so it leaves the issue of who her parents were as a mystery. (There is the possibility that the date, 1907, is incorrect as it would seem more likely that she was born sometime between 1917 and 1929?)

  • Florence Daphne Palmer 1907-1987 + (1941) Allan Clyde Legge 1912-1997
  • John Albert Palmer 1909-1910
  • Mabel H. Palmer 1911-1912
  • Clifford George Palmer 1912-1973 + (1936) Kathleen Ada Bramble c1917-1985
  • Freda Dulcie Palmer 1913-1997 + (1) (1930) Leslie William Newton 1905-1938 +(2) Leslie Nicholas Potts 1905-1978
  • William Alfred (Bill) Palmer 1913-1993 + (1938) Melita Rose Alice Bramble 1917-2010
  • Ethel Jean (Kate) Palmer 1917-1994 + (1937) Morris Lyle Bramble 1915-1948
  • Clyde Lawrence Palmer c1929-1977 +(1950) Valde Betty Ireland 1929-1977

Not all the intricacies of the relationship have been determined but it might be noted that (i) three of the children marry people with the surname “Bramble,” (ii) Amy’s surname was “Bramble,” and (iii) James’ mother’s surname was “Bramble.”

James dies in 1961 and is buried in the cemetery in Bungwahl. Amy dies in January 17, 1971 and is also buried in the Bungwahl cemetery.
