Biography

Karl Wilhelm Brandt was born on April 13, 1863 in Mellby parish, Skaraborgs län, Sweden. He was the son of Johan Fredrik Brandt and his wife Gustava Lidholm.

He lived with his parents in siblings in Brunnstorp under Tholsgård in Mellby parish 1871-1882.[1] He moves to Lidköping on October 13, 1882.[2]

According to Göteborgs-Emigranten, he is married to Maria Johansdotter at the time he emigrates 1892-08-03. He is then listed as living in Gbg:s Oscar Fredrik parish, 6 Rote 5/4.

He seems to return to Sweden, he is listed with his family in multiple household books after 1892 [3]

He emigrates once again, together with his wife and four children Astrid Margareta, Karin Regina, Gustaf Vilhelm and Karl Arthur Fredrik 1909-10-22, destination "Amerika" [4].

On his naturalization card, it states that he arrived in New York on Nov 22. 1909 which would fit well with leaving his home a month before[5].

Furthermore, the ship manifest for SS Cedric, sailing from Liverpool on Nov. 13, 1909 lists the whole family arriving 21 Nov 1909. Their destination is said to be Spokane, Washington[6].

It is possible that the family lived in Spokane for a while, the earliest found census for him is in 1920 when he resides in Kootenai, Idaho (see below).

At the time of his naturalization, 22 Nov 1921, he was living in/at Dalton Gardens, Kootenai, Idaho, United States.[5] That is also where he dies at age 70 according to the death certificate[7].
