When Walter Brandt was born on July 17, 1904, in Gardiner, New York, his father, Ludwig Brandt, was 36 and his mother, Johanna Mauff, was 36. Walter was a bit of a ladies man before he married. He had at least one affair and possibly two that resulted in the birth of children out of wed lock. The affair in 1927 resulted in the birth of Helen Thompson. Helen was raised by his half-sister Roselyn Tatnall. It is possible that he had another affair 1933 resulting in the birth of a son that was put up for adoption. He married Evelyn Brandenstein before 1940. By the time of the 1940 US censes they were living separately. He died on January 28, 1941, in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania, at the age of 36, and was buried in the Harleigh Cemetery, Camden, Camden, New Jersey.
