She Lucy was born in 1812 at Wittersham in Kent, England. She married John PALMER before leaving England. John, Lucy and baby daughter, Emily, settled in Adelaide where John was a policeman. They had a short life together as aboriginals killed John in 1838. He used to swim in the river Torrens every day. One day he did not return but his clothes were found neatly folded where he left them, with his gold watch carefully placed on top.
Lucy PALMER, left to fend for herself and her child, walked to O'Halloran Hill and was employed by the property owner, Mr. O'Halloran, whom she had known in England. Baby Emily was 'farmed out' until Lucy re-married and could care for her again. Emily married Aaron JARRETT and they were farmers on Yorke Peninsula.
