Obituary

Death of John Bredehoft
After several year’s suffering from Kidney troubles but being confined to his room only a few weeks, ex-county treasurer John Bredehoft, died last Sunday at his residence in Danbury twp. The deceased was aged 62 years two months and twelve days, a native of Hanover German, coming to Ohio in 1839, purchasing land on the Peninsula the year before Ottawa county was organized. In 1864 his name was placed on the Democratic ticket as a candidate for County treasurer, when soldiers stationed on Johnson’s Island were permitted to vote in this county, overcoming the Democratic majority; and although every other candidate on the democratic ticket was defeated that year. Mr Bredehoft was elected by a large majority Owing to lingering sickness in his family at that time Br. B. refused to serve a second term, as he wished to be home with his family He was man of excellent habits, honest and upright in all transactions and had the respect and confidence of all. He leaves a widow and five children, as follows: John Bredehoft, Jr, Mrs Harmon Bredbeck, Wm. Bredehoft, Mrs Charles Bredbeck and Ferdinand Bredehoft, all of whom were present at his bedside when the death summons came, he remained conscious to the last, recognizing them all... Services held at German Lutheran Church.[1]
