Joseph Breed was born on August 12th, 1807 to John Breed and Sarah Felt [1],[2]

He married Polly Meacham before 1833. They had the following child:

  • Sarah Felt Breed, born 27 Sep 1833, married Alonzo Dye, died in 1901 and buried on 3 May 1901 [3]

It may be possible they also had these children (shown on the 1850 US Census but relationship not established): [4]

  • Amy Breed born about 1826
  • Mary Ann Breed, born about 1845

Joseph Breed's first wife, Polly (Meacham) died in 1846; henceforth Joseph married second, Philinda (Tilden) (Bond), probably the widow of Joseph Bond. They were censused in 1860 in Lima, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin [5].

Deacon Joseph Breed was killed on September 20th, 1863 while serving with the 1st Regiment, Wisconsin Infantry, ministering to the wounded during the Battle of Chickamauga, in the American Civil War. His grave is in Sheboygan Falls Cemetery, Sheboygan Falls, Sheboygan County, Wisconsin, USA [6]

Notes

In the FamilySearch app, the second wife of Joseph Breed is represented as Philinda nee Tilden, whose first husband was Joseph Bond (27 May 1801 - 29 March 1843), of Boston [7]. Accuracy of these relationships is not certain, not supported with any direct evidence. A tying trace seems to be via a death record for Philinda's daughter, Sarah Foster, in which Philinda is listed as the widow of Joseph Bond [8].
