Biography

George Breed, born 27 Mar 1799 @ Norwich, Connecticut, was the eighth child of Lydia (Perkins) Breed (1767-1861) & Shubael Breed (1759-1840) [1].

George removed from Norwich in 1823 to Poland, Ohio. Two years later, went to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, where he (George) became a merchant and importer.

He married first, 10 Sep 1825, in Taunton, Massachusetts, Anna Williams [2]. They had 2 children, both of whom died in early childhood [3]:

Anna died 6 Aug 1829, three months after the birth of their second child.

George Breed married second, 08 Oct 1833, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Rhoda Ogden Edwards; they had 8 children:

  1. Anna Williams Breed (13 Sep 1834 - 6 Apr 1836)
  2. Mary Breed (27 Dec 1835 - 15 Apr 1836)
  3. Richard Edwards Breed (1837-); married Martha O. Lyon
  4. Sarah Maria (Breed) Zug (1838-1920); married Charles H. Zug
  5. John Allen Breed (1841-1842)
  6. Henry Atwood Breed (1842-1914); married Cornelia Bidwell
  7. Emma Bell (Breed; 1844-1916); married Theodore F. Phillips
  8. David Riddle Breed (1848-1931); married Mary Elizabeth Kendall

This family was recorded in the 1850 U.S. census in Pitt Township, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania [4].

George Breed died 30 Apr 1863. His grave is in Allegheny Cemetery, Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, USA [5].
