Biography

Ancestor of noted actress and activist Ashley Judd, through her father.[1]

Comfort was born about 1744. He passed away in 1799.

Comfort is the son of Ebenezer Brewster, born February 1702/3 in Connecticut. Ebenezer is the son of William b. 1669, son of Capt. Benjamin who was son of Jonathan, b. 1593, son of Elder William Brewster of the Mayflower.

Sometime after 1729, Ebenezer and his brother William both abandoned their wives and children in Connecticut. First, they went to the Oblong area of NY/Connecticut, and then in the 1750s, they went to Virginia. Ebenezer stayed in Virginia, but William moved back north relatively soon afterward.

There won't be sources of Comfort's birth, but Y-DNA matches of Ebenezer's children prove the line back to Elder William. While it is thought that William did not have any children who moved to Virginia, Y-DNA currently can't precisely distinguish between a son of Ebenezer and a son of William. Based on the movements of the brothers, all southern Brewsters who descend from Comfort are presumed to be descendants of Ebenezer, though there may be some family trees with incorrect information.

Currently, I (Michael Brewster), am compiling material to publish the story of Ebenezer, who is my 8th ggf, and his brother in order to assist their descendants in making the connection back to the Mayflower.

Yes he had a brother because there is documents out there about Ebenezer with like the land and all. I haven’t see any descendants show up though.

My research indicates Comfort had a brother Ebenezer as well, according to several Brewster pedigrees. This son Ebenezer does not have a Wikitree entry, but he should. Is anyone a descendant?

As a descendant of Ebenezer b 1703, I am a y-DNA match for descendants of Comfort. I have seen several trees with an Ebenezer b. ~1741, which fits the scenario... this son Ebenezer would relocate to Virgina and die about 1818.

I am a descendant. Comfort's brother Ebeneezer II (married Hannah Avery). They were the parents of Zelphia Brewster who married Abel Abraham Griffith. They are my 3x great -grandparents. I am trying to prove a connection to the Mayflower passengers; however, the lack of documentation of this situation is a wall that is hard to bust through.

I descend from Ebenezer and Elizabeth’s only legitimate son, Charles.

Because there is no official record of Ebenezer after leaving Connecticut, the GSMD won’t accept this line yet.

However, I am a proven Y-DNA connection for Elder William, so they know Ebenezer is part of the line. I’m working on writing up proof of the Virginia Brewsters.

It appears that Comfort's mother was NOT Elizabeth De Wolf (the first wife) but actually Ebeneezer's second wife, name unknown.
