Biography

Middlesex (historic flag)
Thomas Bridges was born in Middlesex, England.

Thomas Bridges was baptised 24 MAY 1778 at St Marylebone, Middlesex, England[1][2]

Thomas Bridges of this parish, bachelor, and Susan Hatton of the same parish, spinster, were married in this Church (the Old Church, St Pancras) by licence the 26th day of September 1801 by T W Champneys, Curate. [3]

Witnesses were Thomas Bridges (presumed groom's father) and N A Long. Mr Long appears to be a Church official who stood in as a witness if only one witness was forthcoming. His signature appears on many of the wedding registrations around this time.

All parties signed.

Discussion Notes

Assuming him to be in his early to mid twenties at his marriage gives an approximate year of birth of 1776.

He is listed here as being Thomas Bridges, the son of Thomas Bridges and Joanna Macey, baptised in 1778 in St Marylebone, however this is as yet uncertain. Further DNA confirmation is required.

Other possible Thomases are:

Thomas baptised 21 Mar 1779 in St Marylebone, son of Thos. and Mary (probably nee Phipps, married 1769)

Thomas baptised 31 July 1783 in Shoreditch, son of Ann Bridges (but he would be aged 18 at marriage in 1801 and inconsistent with the PR marriage witness); Thomas baptised 7 Apr 1776 in St Sepulchre, son of John and Jane (inconsistent with marriage entry); Thomas baptised 3 Apr 1783 in Holborn, son of Joseph and Christian (but he died 1794)

There is an AncestryDNA test match between Chris Goff and Living Reeves. Predicted relationship from AncestryDNA: 5th-8th Cousins, based on sharing 11 cM across 1 segment.

There is also a test match between Living Reeves and Derrick Watson at AncestryDNA. Predicted relationship from AncestryDNA: 5th-8th Cousins, based on sharing 13 cM across 1 segment.

These two matches DO NOT triangulate with each other so cannot be taken as triangulated proof of the relationship proposed here.

Derrick Watson, his first cousin Sandra Bridges and Chris Goff do have a shared DNA match (on gedmatch), but of only about 6cM. It is not yet known if these matches are on the same segment as the matches with Living Reeves.

Given these various DNA matches the relationship given here is probably correct, but cannot be said to be proven. Their most recent common ancestors are their respective 5th great grandparents, Thomas Bridges and Johanna Macey.

DNA Connections
It may be possible to confirm family relationships with Thomas by comparing test results with other carriers of his Y-chromosome or his mother's mitochondrial DNA. However, there are no known yDNA or mtDNA test-takers in his direct paternal or maternal line. It is likely that these autosomal DNA test-takers will share some percentage of DNA with Thomas:

Bridges-1233 and Bridges-1603 appear to represent the same person because: Hi

I believe these two are the same person. I have a DNA match through this couple to a 6th cousin at 11 cM across 1 segment. Not conclusive I know but I am quite confident.

Chris.
