Biography

Private William Bridges served in the United States Civil War.
Enlisted: Aug 15, 1862

William, the son of Ezekiel Bridges and Permelia (Webb) Bridges, was born in 1838. He married Mary Ann "Polly" Walker on 30 Mar 1859 in Cleveland, North Carolina. They had eleven children Cynthia, Addie, Elizabeth, James, Summie, Oliver, Plato, Julia, Ella, Hester and Lonnie, William enlisted for service in the US Civil War on 15 Aug 1862 at Camp Hill, North Carolina. He served in Co. C, 10th Regiment, N. C. State Troops throughout the war and was paroled 9 Apr 1865 at the Appomattox Court House. William returned home after being paroled and was listed as a farmer for the remainder of his life. He died in 1906 and is buried at Union Baptist Church Cemetery, Polkville, Cleveland County, North Carolina, United States.
