John married Margaret Unknown. Their children were John (1546-1607), Richard (d.1620), who settled at Combe, Gloucestershire and Scampton, Lincolnshire, and Alice (d.1599).
John Bridges was at one point tried for "mocking and disparaging the blessed mass". [1] He was mentioned in Foxe's Book of Martyrs as having sheltered John Maundel at Kingswood. [2]
John, a clothier, had his will drawn up on 12 Dec 1596, describing himself as being John Bridges the elder of Ninde in Wiltshire. [3] He requested burial beside his wife Margaret at Wotton Underedge and made bequests to:
John (dec) was named in the 1607 will of his son John. [4]
Research Notes
Ninde appears to be a part of the parish of Kingswood, in Gloucestershire, however it was an extra parochial part of Wiltshire. Even as late as 1868 there was a cloth mill at Ninde.
