Rachel Briggs was born in 1726 at Scituate, Massachusetts Bay, to James and Hannah Briggs. She married Samuel Curtis in 1745; following his death in 1756, she became the second wife of Jonathan Hatch, in the late fall of 1761. She outlived her second husband by more than three decades, dying in 1808; this was recorded as her 80th year, but she was in fact several months into her 82nd.
