Biography

Amos was born in 1715/6. He is the son of Amos Briggs and Sarah Paine. Biography by Robert M. Gerrity: [1]
AMOS BRIGGS, (Sarah Pain, Ralph), was born in Freetown on 6 February 1715, and died before 6 January 1801 when his will was probated. He married in Berkley ABIGAIL PHILLIPS, daughter of James and Hopestill (Babbitt) Phillips, who died probably in Berkley before 9 May 1792 when her husband wrote his will. [VR Freetown[2]; CB I 49-50.[3]] Amos received land from his father in 1748 and 1752, and bought other parcels in 1752, 1761, and 1774; all were in Berkley. [BCD 41:501, 508, 509, 43:436, 44:507, 64:330.[4]] He wrote his will on 9 May 1792. Executors were his sons Thomas and Amos, beneficiaries were Thomas, Amos and Job; the children of his daughter Lydia Haskins, deceased; daughter Abigail Winslow, and daughter Deborah Bowen. Wife Abigail was not named. The final division of the land was made on 3 November 1801, by which time son Thomas had died.
