Amy Rose, the daughter of George Augustus Campbell Bright and Emily Mcleod, was born in India in July 1848 and christened in October.[1] Her father was a staff surgeon with the East India Company. When the Eighth Regiment Native Infantry arrived in Bangalore, Mysore (Karnataka), India, in 1843, he became the garrison's surgeon.[2] Amy spent her very early childhood in India, but the rest of her life in England after the Brights returned home sometime before her father's death in Staffordshire in 1851.[3] In 1861, she lived with her widowed mother and three siblings in Bristol.[4]
At 22, after her mother's death in 1870, [5][6]she moved into a lodging house owned by Eliza Richards at 1 Park Crescent, Weston Super Mare, Somerset.[7] She never married and died in Portslade, Sussex, in 1910.[8] Her brother Charles named one of his children after her.[9]
