Biography

Nehemiah was born in 1812. Nehemiah Briley ... He passed away in 1892.

Burial: Shiloh Cemetery, Brachfield Rusk County Texas, USA Plot: Section 2E Plot 32 Shiloh Cemetery Minden, Rusk, Tx 11 AUG 1999 Scotch Irish of medium height and weight of 150 lbs. The first five children of Nehemiah and Nancy were born in Anson Co. North Carolina. In the 1840's people began to realize that the land was getting overcrowded and overworked. When news arrived that new and better land was waiting in Alabama and Georgia, families moved in waves to the call of "Land is plentiful and just for the taking." Nehemiah and Nancy moved to Smith County, Alabama. After spending a few years in Alabama, they moved to Rome, Meriwether, Georgia, not far from Atlanta, Georgia. Here they lived during the horrible trying years of the Civil War and lost two sons in it and one joined at age five and lived. Nehemiah Briley fought in the 36th Georgia militia. in Anson County he was in the militia that met once per quarter on a Saturday and they were known as the "Young Bloods". Nehemiah, George, John, Samuel and William K. Briley were in the Anson County militia.
