Nathan was born in Emanuel County, Georgia, the son of William Britt and his third wife, Amelia Parish. [1] His father was already an old man at the time of Nathan's birth and died shortly after (based on tax records).
Nathan married Ledora Barfield on 10 Dec 1922 in Emanuel County, Georgia. [2] They had four children: Ollie, Sarah Frances, James Evoid and Helen. By 1940 the couple had separated, with Nathan moving to Elbert County, Georgia with Sarah and Evoid.
Nathan worked as a farmer and, according to his granddaughters, was an extremely fast cotton picker.
