Vera Brittain is best known as the author of the best-selling book Testament of Youth, which recounted her traumatic experiences of the First World War.
Vera Brittain was born 29 December 1893 in Newcastle, Staffordshire. She was educated at a boarding school in Kingswood, Surrey, and at Somerville College, Oxford University, where she studied English Literature.
